Deep darkness…

It was fun, to say the least and a little scary actually. This was 2011 and I was heading alone towards San Diego on a big ocean by myself at night and I had never really done anything quite like that before by myself. Ever done anything that frightened you a little? The waves were just a little bigger than
were in my comfort zone but it was exciting too. A mixture of the thrill and fear as I headed toward the darkness of night and the more immediate city of Avalon twenty miles south.

Who knew what would happen tonight. Would I survive? This was a question the deep darkness of night forced on my subconscious. Honestly I didn’t want to think about it. But behind the feeling of fear was this. I had been at sea many times at night by this point, so I wasn’t exactly thinking the boat would sink, but anything at sea is possible. I think I was thinking the worst case scenario of hitting a storm (even though this was not really
likely in the summer in Southern California). But at night on the sea, these thoughts become all the more real – especially when you’re by yourself! I mean you have to consider the possibility. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard the acronym of FEAR: “False Evidence Appearing Real“.

After five years of going through 35 storms, I learned a very important lesson: Don’t let fear stop you but it is good to be careful. So go one step at a time and if the fear actually meets real evidence than slow down and possibly turn around. Having a plan “B” is also a good idea. I know there are some of you that are completely paralyzed by fear. And this is can be dangerous too because it can cause panic. Fear is a good and a bad thing. It’s good because it
gives you warning signals which you should try and confirm. But actually confirming them is important too and moving forward.

Not only that but anything that takes you outside your comfort zone, can be a little painful but you sure learn a lot! “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger” right (haha!). But there’s a lot of truth to this. I mean without trying to kill yourself, you can still go outside your comfort zone. I promise you will learn something important! And you will grow too.

So the point of all this is to challenge you to face your fear of succeeding working online. Could you fail? Sure. But have you ever heard the saying “success is buried under failure.” So I encourage you to dig a little and step out and do something outside your comfort zone. I know that if you came sailing with me, that I would do my best to protect you from danger and I will do the same for you if you join our team too. But again nobody can predict the future,
